The ratification of the Board of Peace by Donald J. Trump in a historic ceremony at Davos, Switzerland viewed sceptically. President Donald J. Trump sponsored Board of Peace an official international organization, contrary to UNSC (United Nations Security Council) resolution 2803. On 17th November 2025, the UNSC has passed resolution 2803, where the board of peace was welcomed and authorized to establish a temporary international stabilization force in Gaza. Crucially, it is to observe UNSC resolution hasn’t permitted to a creation of new organization but a temporary committee to prevent genocide in Gaza. The creation of Board of Peace, chaired by Donald J. Trump aiming to replace United Nations, is a violation of International Law and the United Nations Charter.
On January 22, 2026, United States President Trump formally announced the ostensible charter of his Board of Peace during a signing ceremony at the World Economic Forum in Davos. The 11-page charter, consisting of 13 articles originally conceived as part of Trump’s push to create a new governance framework in Palestine. Which failed to even mention the Palestinian enclave, even though there is not a single Palestinian member in the Executive Committee headed by U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio. In a statement by White House, 50 countries were invited by the U.S., of which 24 countries accepted the invite including 8 Muslim-majority states alongside Pakistan. Declining the invite includes states such as France, Norway, Slovenia, Sweden, the United Kingdom, Spain, and Germany. Meanwhile, if any state wants to be a permanent member of the Board of Peace for 3 years at its cost $1 billion. This illustrates that it is more like a business venture than a peace-sustaining body.
Some horrifying facts about the Board of Peace. According to the White House statement, the Board of Peace has 3 Steps. At the apex level, President Trump, who is the chairman and retains veto powers. Secondly, the Executive Board is chaired by Marco Rubio, one of the most pro-Israel officials in the Trump administration. He has criticized Western countries for recognizing Palestinian statehood as a reckless decision. While other Executive members are: US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff, Jared Kushner, Billionaire businessman Marc Rowan, Ajay Banga, Former British PM Tony Blair and Robert Gabriel Jr. This list includes not a single Palestinian member while, Tony Blair the most controversial person. He was the person whose government made the decision to invade Iraq before all peaceful options had been exhausted based on flawed intelligence resulting into killing of 100,000 civilians. Then, there is NCAG, the body which will execute the decisions of Executive body.
Notably, 8 Muslim-majority states have joined board of peace which includes UAE, Pakistan, Qatar, Turkey, Egypt, Jordan, Indonesia, and Saudi Arabia. Muslim leaders joined the board of peace at Davos among other 19 world leaders. Here, Israel is also among 24 states which joined the board of peace, but Israeli Prime Minister or President wasn’t present there. Although this inclusion may create unrest internally as most of Muslim states refers Israel as rogue state and strongly condemn its actions in Palestine.
In the case of Pakistan, religious parties and opposition have already slammed PM Shehbaz Sharif’s Board of Peace. Pakistan’s largest opposition party, founded by imprisoned Imran Khan and currently chaired by Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, said in a statement that it does not accept the Pakistani government’s decision to join the Board of Peace. PTI also criticizes government for not consulting the parliament before making major decisions. While Pakistan’s Islamist political party Jamaat-i-Islami (JIP) also rejected the government decision to join the board of peace. JIP chief Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman said in a statement that “Trump’s board of Peace is a new form of Colonialism, citing inclusion of figures like Tony Blair who were responsible for the destruction of Iraq.” While JIP General Secretary Ameer-ul-Azeem said that “if the board’s activities create difficulties for the people of Gaza, protests, and resistance would be launched not only in Pakistan but worldwide.” This seems that inclusion in board of peace could trigger unrest in Muslim World. As, Muslim states didn’t recognize Israel and even after joining the board of peace Pakistan’s foreign office has stated that “Pakistan joined this to express the hope that with the creation of this framework, concrete steps will be taken towards the implementation of a permanent ceasefire, further scaling up of humanitarian aid for Palestinian. Adding, Pakistan also hopes these efforts could result in the establishment of an independent, sovereign, and contiguous State of Palestine, based on the pre-1967 borders with Al-Quds-Al Sharif as its Capital. This statement is the face saving for the Muslim country, as everyone knows this board is more like a business venture. Even after the ceasefire in November, Israeli forces have killed 400 more innocent Palestinians. So, this board of peace is just as useless as the United Nations. All the Muslim states have joined due to political and diplomatic strategies, as they have left with no options. No Muslim state can fight against U.S. and Israel to save Palestinians, and if they didn’t join then might be possible all of the Jewish members would dominate this board of peace to the fullest.
Here, New Delhi’s reluctance to join the Trump-led body is emerging as a notable development. Despite being invited to join the board of peace by President Trump, India has yet to formally get involved in the process. Conspicuous by its absence at Davos, there seems to be concern that if India signs up for the board that Trump envisions as a future replacement for the United Nations. This shows India is afraid that might be possible after Gaza Kashmir dispute could be next. And India didn’t want to solve the Kashmir issue. In conclusion, it seems unlikely that this Board of Peace will last long.
