American Betrayal: Pakistan’s Emergence as a New Security Guarantor for the Arab World.

The attack on Doha pinched Arab countries’ trust in the United States of America. It was actually an attack on the trust that the Arab countries had built over the years regarding the U.S. The fact that Israeli planes traveled 2,000 kilometers, refueled at British and American bases, targeted Doha, the capital of Qatar, and returned sound and safe proved to be a serious threat to the security of the entire Muslim countries of the Middle East. For Saudi Arabia, which considered America its security guarantor, this situation is also a moment of concern that America is not a reliable partner anymore. In this situation, Saudi Arabia struck with realization from the Doha attacks, maneuvered a geostrategic move, to look towards a new strategic partner to deal with any future Israeli aggression and misadventure against Saudi sovereignty. For nuclear and security deterrence, Saudi Arabia has to find a strategic partner apart from America that can guarantee Saudi security and deterrence, and there could be no better option than Pakistan.

The aftermath of the May Crisis 2025 between India and Pakistan proved to be highly beneficial for Pakistan from a diplomatic perspective, as the world’s confidence in Pakistan’s defense competence, political, and military leadership has increased significantly. The lunch of the Field Marshal with Donald Trump, a key diplomatic role in the Iran-Israel war, Pakistan’s participation in the Chinese military parade, alignment with the Western and Eastern blocs at the same time, and now the defense agreement with Saudi Arabia are signs of amplifying the credibility of Pakistan globally.

The Strategic Mutual Defense Agreement (SMDA) was signed on 17th September between Saudi Arabia and Pakistan, as it states that any aggression against either country shall be considered an aggression against both.” Saudi Crown Prince Muhammad Bin Salman and Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif officially announced the historic defense agreement. Earlier, Pakistan’s Prime Minister was accorded a warm welcome by F-15 fighter jets. It was such an unprecedented and historic welcome by Saudi Arabia that it was anticipated that something big was going to happen. SDMA is the first such agreement between Pakistan and any other country in the world in which Article 5 of NATO has been adopted, that an attack on one country will be considered an attack on the other. This agreement is of great importance for Saudi Arabia and Pakistan in future conflicts and wars. Pakistan is a nuclear country, so will Pakistan also provide Saudi Arabia with a nuclear shelter? While talking to Al Jazeera, Pakistan’s Defense Minister Khawaja Asif has made it clear that the defense agreement means that all of Pakistan’s defense capabilities will be used to protect Saudi Arabia. A Saudi official also responded to the same question about Pakistan’s obligation to provide a nuclear umbrella: “This is a comprehensive defensive agreement that encompasses all military means.”

The Pak-Saudi Defense Agreement is the beginning of a strategic partnership between Pakistan and the Arab World. After the Qatar attacks, other Arab countries will also shift their strategic and security reliability from the U.S, and in this situation, Pakistan is an emerging security guarantor to Arabs due to historical agreements and mutual defense exercises.

Pakistan has a history of diplomatic and military engagements with Arab countries. In the 1967 and 1973 Arab-Israeli Wars, Pakistan provided military assistance to the Arabs as the Pakistan Air Force participated in dogfights between the Israeli and Arab air forces. Pakistani pilots shot down various Israeli fighter jets as well and provided full support to the Egyptian, Syrian, and Jordanian forces. There is also a possibility of expansion of SMDA between Pakistan and other Arab Countries, as the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Qatar are also expected to join this defense agreement in the coming days.

This agreement will also have profound effects on American interests in the Middle East, and there is also a moment of reflection as to how long America will continue to defend the extremist and aggressive actions of Netanyahu and will continue to pay the price for Israel. Ukraine and Israel are posing significant challenges for the United States of America and impacting Trump’s policy of America First. Allowing the attack on Qatar was a serious mistake, a fact that Donald Trump will realize even more in the coming days, because these attacks have severely damaged the Arab world’s trust in America.

The Arabs’ relationship with Israel has also been dealt a major blow. From a Pakistani perspective, it’s a huge milestone in geostrategic terms as this agreement will also shelter Pakistan from any sort of Indian aggression in the future, and it will become easier for Pakistan to monitor Israeli activities. To deal with the New Delhi and Tel Aviv nexus at the same time, this agreement has great strategic importance for Pakistan.
